Since lace wigs have hit the market, there has been a flood of people trying to get into the industry to get a piece of the pie. So, with such inexperienced individuals new to the industry, how do YOU know that you are getting a quality unit? Well, from what we have seen and heard,....you'd be alarmed.
Just like new technology, it is very expensive when it first hits the market. Then, other companies begin to copy the technology at lower prices which causes all the prices to be pulled down. In order for companies to remain competitive AND maintain their profitability, they find newer and cheaper ways to produce the same item. Better pricing? Absolutely,...Better quality? Absolutely not.
Lately, ExceptionalHair has begun to receive a substantial amount of inquiries about the materials they use in the production of their lace wigs. Apparently, there are several companies who are offering lace wigs at minimal pricing however their factories are mixing in synthetic or "non-remy" hair. We, in no way, are speculating that these companies are aware of this practice and deliberately misleading their clients however their lack of awareness of their factory's practices could very well leave you with a unit that you are less than satisfied with.
We have found that straight or wavy units are more likely to contain a mixture of "non-remy" hair however curly styles are more likely to contain a mixture of synthetic hair. The reason for this is that the client is more likely to use heated appliances on the straight hair and less likely to use heated appliances on the curly hair.
We have also been informed, by several professional stylists that we interviewed, that a high quality synthetic is often used because it tends to tolerate higher heats, however when it comes into contact with hotter appliances that stylists often use, the hair immediately burns.
So, what if you decide to ask them before you buy? Well, again, if they are unaware of their factory's practices, they could undeniably confirm that only 100% remy hair is used when indeed it is not.
The biggest give away, will be the price. We have founds units as high as $2,500,...and as low as $299. We can all agree that $2,500 is a bit excessive however $299 should also cause concern as well. The only way a unit that is individually stranded and knotted by hand can be made at this price is if cheaper products are being used to make the unit, obviously. There are several clients who would prefer cheaper materials to paying the price of a quality unit however there are many more who feel that if they are paying for 100%, they expect to get it, especially if it is advertised as such.
As a 3rd party consultant who was brought in to research this story, I did scrutinize the practices of ExceptionalHair.com as well. After reviewing their Quality Control procedures, I must admit that I was very pleased with my findings. ExceptionalHair.com is not interested in "price shopping", rather they are in the business of providing QUALITY units to their clients. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable about their product and offers in-depth consultations to clients at no additional charge. In addition, they perform regular tests and checks to ensure that only 100% Premium Remy human hair is being used in the production of their units. From what we have found, they seem to be one of the few who have maintained their pricing on lace wigs because they refuse to compromise quality for profit.
So, the question is, if you buy 2 units, one for $299 and the other for $500, if the $299 unit lasts 2 months and the other a year, which unit is really cheaper? What it all boils down to is using your common sense. You get what you pay for. It is not the initial cost of the unit that determines the "price", rather the "price per wear".
